I went to Wal-Mart, because the shampoo and conditioner is so much cheaper. I also had several high value coupons and since my Kroger only doubles coupons up to 50 cents I figured I'd use them today.
First thing, though, I went and picked up my Angel Food. Everything looks pretty good. As the dessert item, we got a good sized tub of peanut butter cookie dough. Yum!
Then I went to the discount bread store, which happens to be right next to the church that hosted the Angel food pick-up. I got the loaf of bread pictured and the really nice sandwich buns. I also got my children a snack cake each. I spent $3.57 there. Considering a pack of buns at the grocery store cost me $2.99 recently, before tax, I think I did pretty well. I hoped it would be cheaper, but I wasn't really disappointed.
Here is what I got at Wal-Mart:
-Riceworks chips ($1.50 after coupon)
-Baked Lays ($2.38 after coupon)
-Great Value chips
-2 containers of Oscar Meyer turkey
-Four Healthy Choice entrees (these were $1.88 each and I had a $1/2 coupon. Total cost $1.38 each)
-Trash bags
-6 gallons of water
-Dishwashing liquid
-2 boxes of Fiber One bars
-Stax (these were 25 cents cheaper than at Kroger)
-Maple Syrup
-2 boxes of Pop-Tarts (one of the disadvantages of shopping with children)
-Kleenex
-2 boxes of Rotini ($1.28 each and I had 75 cents off coupons. Total cost 53 cents each)
-Smart Ones Chicken Suiza ($1.80 and I had a 75 cents off coupon so it only cost me $1.05)
-Provolone cheese
-Smoked ham (lunchmeat)
-Italian bread (from the reduced bread rack and only 90 cents)
-Raspberry danish (also from the reduced rack- $2.40)
-Bag of buns (from the reduced bread rack-$1.50)
-Shaving cream
-Tampons
-Pert Plus
-Garnier conditioner
I had $9.25 in coupons and I ended up spending $67.17.
I know what I did "wrong". I bought the more expensive baked chips. I bought Pop-Tarts, which will get eaten but were not on my list (I had a coupon but they were still $1.28 a pack). I bought a larger pack of tampons, because it ended up being cheaper (and I'll have enough for next month too). And...the discount bread rack got me. I didn't have to buy the danish and I didn't have to buy the Italian bread.
Overall, for my first month at trying this, I think I did okay. As time goes on, I think I'll get better and maybe even end up spending less than $400 some months.
Total spent today $70.74
Total spent in 2010: $415.50
Remaining annual balance: $4784.50
